Launch of the history book of St Joseph’s NS Templemore

The book is now available for purchase and is a must for all alumni

History was written this week when St Joseph’s Primary School in Templemore celebrated its 70th anniversary and launched the book “Our History 1951-2021”.

This was the culmination of two years of hard work, collecting information, photos, naming photos and collating the names of up to 5,000 students, all of whom attended St Anne and St Joseph Primary Schools. over the past eight decades and more.

While the opportunity was severely restricted due to the ongoing pandemic, it was nonetheless a very special and moving occasion.

Except for the 6th class, all the students and their teachers watched the ceremony live.

Friday also allowed the community of Templemore to thank the Sisters of Mercy for their dedication and their friendship to all. The first sisters arrived in Templemore 158 years ago and closed for the last time on November 15. The community of Templemore is very grateful to both Sr. Breda Coman and Sr. Helen Kennedy for their generosity of time and spirit as preparations were made for this. opportunity.

It is not surprising that Sr. Breda, the last director of the Mercy Sisters in service, was invited to officially launch the book. She did it with a lot of poise!

Sr. Breda’s speech was rightly addressed to the young audience, informing everyone that in addition to the celebration of St Joseph who is celebrating his 70th birthday, he is shared with other well-known names such as Bob Geldof, Tommy Hilfiger and Denis threatens her and Alice in Wonderland!

To help Sr. Breda launch the book, Mr. Sonny O’Donoghue, the esteemed Guardian, who was a student of Junior Infants in 1951, and Jenny Marnell who is currently in sixth grade. It was a wonderful moment when the book was unveiled to applause and applause.
