Sharjah: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has announced that Italy is the guest of honor at the 41st edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), scheduled for November 2022.
A stellar gathering of Italian authors, artists and publishers will promote the arts, literature and culture of the country as guest of honor at the 2022 edition of SIBF. The selection also highlights the deep-rooted bilateral ties between the UAE and Italy in many areas, including culture and heritage.
The decision was announced at a meeting attended by Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, President of the SBA, and Nicola Lener, Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates, to discuss the potential for strengthening mutual cultural relations and ” explore avenues of collaboration between Sharjah and Italian cities in the organization of book fairs and cultural events.
Ahmed Al Ameri said: “We are looking forward to welcoming some of the greatest Italian writers and artists to SIBF 2022. Through the selection of Italy as GOH, we seek to promote intercultural dialogue between the two countries, in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Sovereign of Sharjah, to build bridges of cultural understanding among the peoples of the world and promote common values through knowledge, art and literature .
Strong cultural relations
“The strong cultural relations between the UAE and Italy date back to the days when the Silk Road linked East to West and played a key role in facilitating trade as well as intellectual and cultural exchange. .
