Hargeysa International Book Fair 2022 for Somaliland in July.

The Hargeysa International Book Fair 2022, now in its fifteenth year, will be held in the capital of Somaliland from July 23 to 28, 2022. The festival’s partner country is Senegal and the theme is “Solidarity”.

Since 2008, the Redsea Cultural Foundation has hosted the Hargeysa International Book Fair in Somaliland. Starting with minimal numbers, the festival has grown into the biggest literary extravaganza in the Horn of Africa and one of the largest on the African continent. It has hosted some of the leading writers, journalists, scholars, publishers, artists, journalists and other professionals from dozens of countries.

In 2022, the festival returns even bigger and better to its now traditional home of the Hargeysa Cultural Center in Hargeisa. As in previous years, participants will be treated to panels, readings, launches, theatrical and poetic performances and much more over the five days that it takes place. This year’s theme is “Solidarity” which couldn’t be more timely in the chaotic timeline we currently live in.

One of the unique offerings of the festival is the focus on “country” where attendees have the opportunity to meet writers, poets, scholars and other personalities from the featured country. Some of the countries that have received this honor in the past are Ethiopia, Egypt, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya. For 2022, the focus is on the West African country, Senegal, which is known as one of the major literary powerhouses in this part of the continent.

As the festival dates approach, expect announcements on featured artists which we will share as soon as they are known. For those who can, please plan to attend this event in July. As a former guest, I promise you will be charmed and educated by the events in this part of the continent.
