Emirates News Agency – Emirati Book Fair to kick off in Sharjah on Thursday


SHARJAH, 19th April, 2022 (WAM) — The 2nd edition of the Emirati Book Fair (EBF), organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), in partnership with the Emirates Writers Union, will start on 21st April at the SBA headquarters in Al Zahia, Sharjah.

Open to the public from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the book fair will host round tables and poetry evenings hosted by renowned Emirati authors and intellectuals.

Khawla Al Mujaini, director of exhibitions and festivals at SBA, noted that the book fair highlights the authority’s vision to strengthen the local book industry movement and move it forward by deliberating with creators and renowned Emirati authors and intellectuals. “The EBF will also present the Emirati book market and provide the public with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge during the cultural event organized during Ramadan,” she added.

The exhibition will bring together Ali Al Abdan; Dr. Hamad Ben Saray; Sheikha Al Mutairi; Ahmad Al-Assam; Amal Al-Sahlaoui; Awad bin Hasoum Al Darmaki; Salha Obaid; Eman Al Yousuf; Alia Al Mansouri; and Mona Alraisi, to discuss several cultural topics, including the presence of the Emirati writer on the world stage, musical anthropology in Sharjah and the creative journey of Emirati poet Ahmad Rashid Thani.

The four-day event will provide a platform for publishers, authors and intellectuals to network, spotlight new titles from emerging writers and shed light on the creative journeys of literary talents from the UAE. It will also cover various cultural topics in addition to highlighting the thriving cultural scene in the UAE.

Entities participating in the local event include Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), Academy of Poetry, Al Qasimi Publications, Kalimat, Al Hudhud Publishing and Distribution, and other local cultural institutions, initiatives and publishers .

The book fair will promote local content of all genres such as academic books, novels, historical titles and children’s literature.
