Book Fair and Fine Arts Festival Showcase Local Talent | News

COUNTY OF BREVARD – Virtually nonexistent in 2020, the fall festival season is upon us. An occasional glimpse into community calendars across the state will provide Floridians with a wide array of fairs and festive events.

Brevard County also hosts its fair share of festivals, all of which look forward to welcoming you with open arms. One such must-see event is the 12th Annual Meet the Authors Book Fair, which will be held November 20-21 at the Eau Gallie Civic Center, located at 1551 Highland Avenue, Melbourne.

The Meet the Authors Book Fair is sponsored by Authors for Authors, a local group dedicated to “supporting authors, encouraging literacy and, of course, the pleasure of reading,” according to Valerie Allen, co-founder of the literary alliance.

What started as a simple wish to provide community and support to the local writers’ audience in 2009 has grown into a rich network of writers, editors and illustrators. Twice a year, Authors for Authors aims to bring writers and readers together through a writers’ conference and ensuing book fair.

The Writers’ Conference offers training focused on helping aspiring writers navigate the publishing industry. Conversely, the Meet the Authors book fair seeks to bring readers and writers together. The Book Fair allows authors to market their efforts and, most importantly, to meet their readers.

More than 50 authors will be on hand to discuss, sign and sell their books to the public. Representing fiction, non-fiction, poetry and children’s books, it is also an interesting opportunity for bibliophiles to mark a literary gem as yet unknown.

The Book Fair further offers a chance to network with new authors and publishers, as well as stimulate creativity to explore unfamiliar territory of an unfamiliar genre. This is all a win / win for Brevard County.

If you are an avid reader and maybe have your own story but are unsure or afraid of the posting process, this is the place to be. You can connect with local writers who have gone through the publishing factory and learn about other writers groups such as the Space Coast Writers’ Guild.

If you are already published, you can participate as a supplier with two options, either a full table with crew or a book display stand. The cost for a full table for two days is $ 100, for a single day is $ 60. If you are unable to attend but would enjoy the exhibit, you can choose to exhibit your book at a cost of $ 5 per title.

Many writers from up to 20 different states are taking advantage of this opportunity, including a conglomerate that Dr. Allen likes to call the “California Girls.” These costs are relatively inexpensive given the expected participation.

As the Book Fair brings together its own followers, the event is being held in conjunction with the ArtWorks Festival, which is now in its 24th year. The ArtWorks Eau Gallie fine arts festival takes place every year the week leading up to Thanksgiving and always draws huge crowds.

ArtWorks is unique in that artists not only display their products, but also show how they create their pieces. Along Highland Avenue and St. Clair Street, performers provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a variety of artistic disciplines, garnering greater public admiration.

This symbiotic approach between creator and patron, both for the Book Fair and the Festival of Works of Art, marks these events as distinctive and memorable.

These family events are free and open to the public on November 20 and 21, 2021. The Book Fair will take place from 10 am to 4 pm. .
