The Arabic edition of the “100 Great Indian Poems”, selected and edited by acclaimed Indian diplomat and literator Abhay K, has been launched in the current 11 days. Sharjah International Book Fair.
The book 100 Qaseedat Hindiyah Raiyeh in Arabic includes poems from 28 Indian languages spanning over 3,000 years of Indian poetic history.
The Arabic version of the book was launched at the fair on Wednesday. ‘100 Great Indian Poems’ has already been translated into five languages in Europe and Africa.
Regarding the publication of the anthology, he said that the Arabic edition will serve as a literary bridge between India and the Arab world. The book has been translated and published in Arabic by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage.

Abhay is the author of nine collections of poetry, including “The Magic of Madagascar” (L’Harmattan Paris, 2021), “Les alphabets d’Amérique latin” (Bloomsbury India, 2020) and the editor of “The Book of Bihari Literature ”(Harper Collins, 2022). His “Earth Anthem” has been translated into over 120 languages.
It is our privilege that the Arabic edition of the book “100 Great Indian Poems” by Abhay K, Indian Ambassador to Madagascar, and translated by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, is launched at the prestigious International Fair of book from Sharjah, the largest book fair in the world, said Consul General of India in Dubai, Aman Puri.
The book fair opened on November 3 and will run until November 13.
Puri said the cultural and literary exchanges between Arabic-speaking countries and India go back thousands of years and that he and the mission in the United Arab Emirates are committed to maintaining “this special thriving friendship.”
Director of Content Management and Publishing at the Sharjah Heritage Institute, Mini Abdelkader said her institute aims to place importance on cooperation with cultural organizations around the world.
“By publishing the Arabic version of the ‘100 Great Indian Poems’, the institute will be able to introduce and propagate the strong Indian culture and tradition in the Arab world. And it will also be very useful for cultural exchanges between different people and communities living across the world, said Amdelkader.
“100 Great Indian Poems” has already been translated and published in Italian under the title “100 Grandi Poeme Indiane” by Edizioni Efesto, Rome, in Spanish entitled “Cien Grandes Poemas de la India” by the National Autonomous University of Nuevo Le n , (UNAL) Monterrey, Mexico, in Portuguese, entitled “100 Grandes Poemas da India”, published by the University of Sao Paulo and in Malagasy under the title “Tononkalo Indianana 100 Tsara Indrindra” published by Tsipika.
The book has also been translated into Irish, Nepalese, French and Russian – publication of these books is expected next year.
